Lookie here

A connection from the Denver Post to a photo site showing some engrossing color photos of America in 1939 to 1943. You've got some of those famous Russell Lee Pie Town, N.M., photos but in color. I'm pretty sure Rosie the Riveter is eating with her friends in Picture #64. Scenes range from the Rockies to the rural South and big cities in the North. It's engrossing to look at those people 70 years back and think of how their lives were lived.

I love stuff like this. So much of our country's history and flavor can be told through the medium of photography.

I subscribe to Reminisce magazine, and I look so forward to its arrival. It is almost completely subscriber-written, and contains, you guessed it, reminisces, and fabulous pics to go along with them. This magazine has a way of taking me out of the craziness of my day, and taking me to a happier place. For a few hours, you forget the cell phone, the email and other irritants of the modern world in which we live, and just feel peace. Go to www.reminisce.com and you can see alot of this online. I think you would like it.

With today's digital photography, it seems everyone can have as many pictures as they can take. But long ago, when cameras, flash bulbs, and film (NO MORE KODACHROME???!!!) were rarer and more expensive, the family who was lucky enough to own such equipment was most judicious in its use, and developed pictures were treasured and passed down through the generations. So much of today's items are disposable. I took several pictures the other day of my new kitten, and of course he wouldn't hold still, so I kept snapping until I got a couple good ones. The other less-than-perfect ones? Deleted with the touch of a button.

The mindset today is so different from that of yesteryear.

Thanks for the link, Loon. I could actually just sit and enjoy for a while, and that is priceless.

Excellent site! The link to the early 1900s Russia photos was very good as well. I had a subscription to Reminisce maintained by my in-laws once upon a time. Now that I enjoy out-law status with them, they cut the funding for the mag. I really need to re-up my subscription.....

This was wonderful! I love stuff like this, too.

Pilot, your divorce attorney should have negotiated that perpetual subscription for you.

In-laws, outlaws.

Meh.

It's all the same thing...

As usual, your links are great. Thanks for giving this gift to us. I've already passed it on and the people love it, too. Thanks. Fondly, Ferret

Fond Ferret, et al. - Links like this one are what I love about the new technology. In days gone, you might possibly stumble across something like this in the library, but probably wouldn't; now, if you spend a little time wandering around, you find a world of interesting things of this sort.
