Here & there

Looking north up 8th Avenue outside Penn Station, NYC, ca. 9 a.m., Feb. 19, and looking north up 4th Street, **Adrift, ca 9 a.m., Feb. 20. Too bad I have no recording of the street noise. There was a mockingbird singing in the front yard when I was out there. Being in the big, exciting city was fun, but home is pretty nice, too, and much less frantic.

From one who has been both places, no audio track, or (odorifics) shall be req'd to channel NYC. Though I do so love to visit the place...... But then again, at certain times of the year, those grackles and gulls can create a wall of sound down there as well.....or so remembers an old Pilot.....welcome back to the real world.

Glad to see you enjoyed your trip, Mr. Loon, and that you also have the good sense to appreciate your peaceful home life too. I just returned from a couple days' visit to my old neighboorhood in Houston, visiting a few friends and relatives alike, and I now realize the older I got the more I would be able to settle down. I know now the opposite seems to be happening....I dearly love and miss the city, and my hometown of Houston, even with the traffic and noise. In fact, I find it makes me love the city even more. I thought that building a custom home down here in the sticks would be enough of an anchor to make me stay away from what I know I should stay away from, but that ol' demon of romanticizing the past and seeing through rose-colored lenses raises its nasty head every time I go back home....not that I am even sure where home is anymore. We as humans are cursed to want the best of all worlds, and equally cursed to be unable to ever attain that lofty goal. I miss the concrete, the sidewalks, the shopping, the life I had there. I love the solitude, the peace, the trips to the mailbox in my PJs here. And never the twain shall meet....

Hey, Shug: I used to say I wanted about 40 acres in the middle of San Francisco. I understand the competing pulls of tranquillity and some excitement and action. All my life I keep thinking about being somewhere else.
Pilot: Next time maybe I will get to a Broadway show, or at least something on the stage. A big storm brewing up there tonight, so **Adrift is definitely the place to be.
