Here's an entertaining little test of your political leanings. It's on two axes, one for economic left/right, one for social libertarian/authoritarian.
Try it at http://www.politicalcompass.org/ and see what you get. My leftish friends think I'm a reactionary and my right friends think I'm a communist. They may all be kinda right, as I fall very close to the 0-0 of a perfect moderate. I am –3.50 on the left/right axis, which makes me a little bit to the left, and –1.54 on the libertarian/authoritarian axis, which makes me just a tad libertarian. Try it and see what you are. I fall in the southwest [corrected, Sugar. Thx.] quadrant.

Wow. Very interesting. I took it this morning, and my Economic left/right reads 3.88, while my social libertarian/authoritarian axis is 1.90. Places me just below Thatcher. I believe that's good company; firmly East-Northeast.
I took a pew survey about a month ago, and coded as a pure libertarian, which gave me some answers I have been looking for. I always thought of myself as more Republican/conservative, which I am on economic/fiscal issues, but split with the right when it comes to social issues such as abortion, gay marriage, etc. Never really understood why. Being able to identify now as a libertarian makes so much more sense. Now, knowing I am consistent with being far right in my economic policies and somewhat authoritarian with my social policies completes the picture. Makes some sense of my clashes (although always respectful and informed) with some of my more liberal bleeding-heart CJ professors.
Thanx, Mr. Loon. Even though you fall in the SE quadrant (although if you are -3.50 on x axis and -1.54 on y axis, wouldn't that place you in SW quad?), it's good to know that diverse people can still have a meeting of the minds and understand one another. See, would a Republican say that? No, but a libertarian/authoritarian might! :)
Yeah, it's interesting alright.
Some of the questions are vague though. The one about a one party state...of course it would speed up the political process.
Anyway I was close to you Loon, -2.0 and -.87
I always knew I was a libertarian. I've claimed both major tickets in my lifetime, and both eras were greatly influenced by my personal views of fairness in the world as well as my personal assets.
My scores proved my still slightly left views. 1.30 and 0.00 and I have a sneaking suspicion that the slightly left view reared its head because of my values for life, all life.
Oh correction, I am a -1.30 on the left right and 0.00 the vertical.....blond moment.....
Well, I took the test today, but left the results right there on my desk. I can say that I was a negative tres & change in both, putting me almost in the dead center of the southwest quad......
When I retire, or become self employed, I'll smoke a joint or eat an Alice B. Tolklas brownie with you. Your body is yours - do with it what you will, just don't hurt mine or my family's. Don't Mess With Texas. Keep your hands off my guns. Don't pollute my bays and rivers. Check your color or creed at the door. Treat me and my beliefs with respect, and I will shelter and feed you and welcome you into my humble abode.
I love you, Alice B. Toklas.....
Hey, Pilot, this one's just for you:

Mostly we all sound pretty moderate sorts. My old hippie wife says that we have the Alice B. Toklas cookbook. Are we all queasy about Santorum?
Aw, man. All the Toklas brownies in the world couldn't cure my nausea over Sanctimonious. Uh, I mean Santorum. No, on second thought, I'll stick with Sanctimonious.
The guy is an extremist and a zealot.
Aw, I've said it all before. Seems every election one creeps out from the woodwork like a German cockroach. Wish I could take my boot and squish 'im...
okay I looked closer at my compass from yesterday's little quiz"
Economic L?R -3.88
Socio-Lib/Authoritarian -3.59
from the example page, I am sitting in Ghandi's front yard.
You still cain't have mah guns, or Mess with Texas......
