Poking fun at the Vicad

I just realized that's it's been forever since I made fun of the Vicad, not from any lack of fun to poke or suddenly discovered regard for the poor rag, but just my natural indolence exacerbated by the onset of warm weather.
From a cutline on Page A6 today: 'A gift from his sister, Spot, a stuffed toy dog, was Bryan Kalina's companion through the early years of treatment for cancer.' I think we do girls a disservice by the frivolous names we give them, but 'Spot' is way too much. Or did someone bobble that?

Yeah, that poor little newspapers with its poor little journalists and its poor little problems. What you cited is, sadly, the least of it.

Honestly, I've just stopped caring. I once thought there was hope. It's a sad feeling to realize there really is none. At least your post brings a smile to my face. Too bad I can't say the same thing for the VicAd.

I think part of the problem is that some of the reporters suffer from the same affliction I have--comma-itis.

I just love commas and can't always find enough ways to decorate my writing with enough of them. Had a writing teacher tell me my problem was I write like I talk. She said, "Every pause is not a comma!"

As you might imagine, there's a Facebook page called "Let's eat Grandma! or is it Let's eat, Grandma!"

But back to your example, sometimes it seems they work at making it awkward, doesn't it?
