Rose's bar
This sculpture is on the grounds of the local tourism bureau in Lafayette. It kinda tickled me.
The newspaper in Lafayette looks pretty healthy, with lots of retail advertising. The focus of the rag is on local news, very thoroughly done, less worry about the affairs of the wider world. They may be on to something. The local alternative rag also looked sound for ads.

I'm so glad someone cared enough about Miss Rose's Bar to rescue it. We seem to be singular in our ways as a nation in that we so readily disregard the past. I know that trait is one thing that has made America so powerful; that we are always forward-looking and can't wait for tomorrow. But I believe we too easily throw away our past and so much of our history. It pains me to admit this, but Houston is probably one of the worst cities when it comes to wiping away precious history. I love my town, but it is too heavy-handed regarding razing buildings, important landmarks, and showing disdain in general of things that have come before. Can a little preservation be all that hard, people?
Fine example you have shown us, Mr. Loon. At least some people in Louisiana remember and care.
